A volcano peak standing above a sea of cloud at sunrise, seen from Acatenango
01 / ACATENANGO

Sleep on a volcano, wake up above the clouds.

You will not sleep much, and that is the point. Fuego erupts through the night close enough to hear, and your cabin door faces it. Before dawn you climb the last stretch in the cold, and the sun comes up over a sea of cloud with three volcanoes standing out of it.

Duration2 days, 1 night
IncludedCabin, 3 meals, jacket and gloves

A wooden dock reaching into Lake Atitlan with volcanoes across the water
02 / LAGO DE ATITLÁN

A lake ringed by volcanoes, and a boat that waits for you.

The boat is yours for the day, so nobody rushes you back to a dock. San Juan for the weavers and the painted streets, San Marcos for the cliff jump and the quiet, Santiago for the market. Swim when you feel like swimming.

DurationFull day
IncludedPrivate boat and bilingual guide
FromQ2,500 the group
A Maya pyramid rising out of the jungle canopy at Tikal
03 / TIKAL

Temples that come out of the jungle before you reach them.

We collect you in Antigua at 3am for the dawn flight north, and by eight you are walking into the ruins while it is still cool and the howler monkeys are loud. Toucans crossing the plaza, stone that has stood for more than a thousand years, then the island of Flores in the afternoon and the evening flight back. We are waiting at the airport to drive you home. The flights themselves are not included, you book those, and we build the day around them.

Duration3am to about 10pm
IncludedPark entrance, guide, meal, transfers

Walkers beside glowing lava on the slopes of Pacaya volcano
04 / PACAYA

Ground warm enough to toast marshmallows on.

The easy volcano, and the strangest afternoon on the list. You walk out over old lava fields, feel the heat coming up through your boots, and find a vent still hot enough to cook on before the light goes.

DurationHalf day
IncludedGuide, marshmallows and chocolate

Two surfers on the black sand beach at El Paredon at sunset
05 / EL PAREDÓN

Black sand, warm water, two hours from Antigua.

The Pacific side is closer than people think. We drive you down in the morning and collect you after the sun goes into the water. Bring a towel, rent a board there, eat at whatever place looks good.

DurationDay trip, there and back

A cobblestone street in Antigua Guatemala at dusk with Volcan de Agua behind
06 / ANTIGUA

A volcano at the end of every street.

Spend the day around town instead. Chocolate and jade workshops, a macadamia farm, weavers still working on backstrap looms. Or ride up to the ridge viewpoints and look down on the whole valley from Hobbitenango and Antigua Boreal.

DurationHalf or full day
IncludedThree routes to choose from
FromQ500 for up to three

The road is half of it.

Guatemala looks different at ground level. Highland pine on the way to the lake, sugar cane and volcanic sand going down to the coast, jungle flattening out towards Petén. You see all of it from the road.

Because the vehicle is private, it is your group in it and nobody else. No shared shuttle, no waiting on strangers, no detour to pick up other passengers. You agree the plan for the day with us before you set off.

About Us

No agency desk between you and the road.

JP Tours GT works out of Antigua Guatemala and was founded by Antonio Juárez, who is from Alotenango, the town at the foot of Acatenango. He started out in tourism in 2020 and still drives most of the trips himself. You book straight with us, so the route, the timing and the price come from the people running the day, not from a reseller.

In his words: what he likes is showing people the culture, the food, the traditions and the landscapes of Guatemala, and he would rather you finished the day feeling you had travelled with a friend than with an operator.

On the trips that include a guide, Acatenango, Lake Atitlan and Tikal, we work with certified bilingual guides who know those sites properly. Everything on the road, the driving, the timing, the stops, stays with us.
